Very high appreciation should be given to all levels of the security forces including the TNI, Polri, and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) for continuing to improve security for the public and civilians to combat acts of cruelty and attacks carried out by Separatist and Terrorist Groups (KST). Papuan.

KST Papua has again carried out brutal actions by attacking security forces and civilians. Most recently, a member of the Indonesian Army was reported to have died after being involved in a shootout with the KST group in the Nduga region, Papua Mountains, Monday (3/4). Previously 2 (two) members of the security apparatus consisting of joint personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) were reported dead after being shot by the Papuan Separatist and Terrorist Group (KST) in Puncak Jaya, Papua Mountains on Saturday , last March 25, 2023.

In this regard, the Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police, Kombes Pol Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, confirmed the shooting that killed Serda Riswar and Bripda Mesak Indey. One personnel, namely Brigadier Muhammad Arif Hidayat, suffered a gunshot wound.

According to Benny, the shooting started when 18 joint TNI-Polri personnel from the Koramil 1714-02/Ilu and the Ilu Police carried out security for the Taraweeh prayer in front of the Al Amaliah Mosque, Ilu District. At that time, two people who were strongly suspected of being members of the KKB opened fire towards the front of the mosque.

He explained that the shooting was carried out by as many as 2 (two) unknown people and they used a short-barreled firearm and also a long-barreled firearm. Based on witness testimony, said Benny, the shooter was standing in front of a kiosk around the mosque. Then, the two men shot at joint TNI-Polri personnel who were carrying out security in front of the mosque.

Then, after the incident of the shooting, suddenly the National Police immediately set alert status one in Puncak Jaya Regency. In fact, all security forces, starting from the TNI and Polri, are also being asked to increase their vigilance.

The Papua Police Chief advised his staff to increase their vigilance and be able to anticipate security disturbances. Not only that, but the Police are now also continuing to investigate the two perpetrators to be able to reveal what the motive for the attack was.

Not only that, people are also asked to report to the security forces if they see and know someone suspicious. The Regional Police Chief also appealed to all community stakeholders in Puncak Jaya to actively participate in creating an environment and situation that is full of security and conducive order. Meanwhile, on Wednesday (5/4) a joint TNI-Polri team arrested a member of the armed criminal group (KKB) led by Pilatus Walker with the initials YM in Puncak Regency, Central Papua. The police noted that YM was involved in shooting a motorcycle taxi driver and burning the BTS tower.

Support for eradicating KST Papua comes from many parties. Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI), Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) continues to ask the central government to increase the strength of the combined TNI and Polri personnel in Papua. According to him, this is very important to do in order to strengthen and increase security in the Papua region, especially to be able to break the chain of basic needs for separatist and terrorist groups (KST).

The addition of personnel, said Bamsoet, is to ensure the security of the people of Papua, both in areas where terrorist acts have just occurred and throughout Papua where KST terror acts have the potential to occur.

He also asked the joint military, police and regional government to focus on efforts to deal with violence or attacks by KST which continue to recur in the Papua region, and continue to pursue and take firm action against the KST perpetrators who carried out these acts of terror.

Bambang Soesatyo emphasized that the government really needs to identify and also map the pattern of attacks on KST Papua. with proper mapping and identification, in the future it will be strategic to be able to deal with KST Papua from the TNI and POLRI will also be much more precise and able to provide protection to civilians in dealing with and fighting against acts of violence in Papua KST.

Bamsoet also urges the government and the National Agency for Combating Terrorism (BNPT) together with the TNI-Polri to take preventive steps and strictly open up persuasive dialogue spaces, with traditional heads, community leaders, religious leaders, and other relevant stakeholders.

The dialogue space is to stop KST terror acts, bearing in mind that so far the actions carried out by KST in Papua have threatened public security and created fear for civilians with acts of terror that have resulted in casualties.

On another occasion, the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Papua continues to work to improve coordination with the TNI and Polri, religious leaders, and indigenous peoples and communities so that they can continue to strengthen security handling in Cenderawasih Land.

The existence of efforts to continue to be able to increase security is something that really deserves to be highly appreciated because it is also concrete evidence of how the real commitment is owned by all parties to be able to strive to bring peace in the Land of Papua and also really be able to eradicate KST. .
