A number of strategies have been prepared in an effort to increase security at the ASEAN Summit (Summit) on 9-11 May 2023. This step also needs to receive appreciation from all parties who have shown the professionalism of the Government of Indonesia who are committed to making the event a success.

One way to support the success of the entire series of ASEAN Summit events is to create a safe and conducive atmosphere in NTT, including in Labuan Bajo, as the location for the event. This effort is of course a joint effort of all elements of society.

To be able to maintain or create an atmosphere so that the situation is safe and conducive, it will indeed be very difficult if it turns out that you don’t get full help and support from all parties. Even if for example only the government itself did it, of course it would be said that it would be impossible.

If the atmosphere can be maintained in a stable manner to be safe and also conducive, then the overall agenda of the ASEAN Summit will definitely go according to expectations.

For information, there are indeed many tasks and roles shared by the government, especially in certain ministries and agencies which are still related to the ASEAN Summit.

The Head of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri), General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, said that his party had instructed the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) to be ready to carry out security with a special strategy for major events to be held in Indonesia this year.

“We also have to prepare security well, we also have to carry out security well, by looking in the mirror when we carried out security for the G20 Summit,” said the National Police Chief.

He also anticipates various events on religious holidays, where there will be a tradition of going home which will of course cause potential disruption to security and order in their respective areas.

Previously, the Head of the Indonesian Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) Inspector General Firman Shantyabudi and related staff had visited Labuan Bajo NTT, in the context of security readiness for the ASEAN Summit activities.

Firman emphasized that his party also supports the needs needed by the NTT Regional Police, starting from technology, equipment, personnel, which are coordinated directly by the Asops Kapolri. According to him, Technologies such as K3I, Control, Coordination, Communication, and Information were also established by the Korlantas Polri, so that they could directly monitor security during the 2023 ASEAN Summit.

This has also become a number of efforts from security strategies to safeguarding the implementation of the ASEAN Summit. It is undeniable that all parties must unite in increasing security and maintaining the atmosphere in Labuan Bajo.

TNI, Polri, and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) continue to work together to optimize a conducive situation during the ASEAN Summit (Summit), moreover, the event is an international standard event, which is attended by leaders of countries in the Southeast Asia Region, so that the safety factor must take precedence.

Pangdam IX/Udayana Major General TNI Sonny Aprianto, SE, MM, as Pangkogaspamwil VVIP, invited all personnel who are members of the Security Task Force (Pam) to maximize regional security provided to VVIP officials and all delegates present at the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo.

According to the Military Commander, Kodam IX/Udayana has experience in securing the G20 which was successfully held in Bali Province in November 2022, so his party hopes that at the ASEAN Summit this time, everything will go well.

The period of Indonesia’s chairmanship in ASEAN lasts for one year, starting from 1 January to 31 December 2023. Indonesia’s chairmanship in ASEAN 2023 brings opportunities as well as moments to demonstrate Indonesia’s strategic role in strengthening ASEAN’s institutional capacities and capabilities. especially in forming a regional order that is based on multilateralism and values of inclusivity.

As the host for the chairmanship of The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) 2023, Indonesia nominated the theme ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth which means that Indonesia wants to make ASEAN remain important and relevant to the ASEAN community and the world.

The Chair of ASEAN Indonesia 2023 on the Priority Economic Deliverables (PEDs) track raises 3 strategic pillars namely, Rebuilding Regional Growth, Connectivity, and New Competitiveness (recovery rebuilding) (1), Accelerating Inclusive Digital Economy Transformation and Participation (digital economy) (2), and finally Promoting Sustainability Economic Growth for a Resilient Future (sustainability) (3).

With the success of the 2023 ASEAN Summit series, it increasingly shows that Indonesia has a strategic role in leading and creating real solutions that can concretely provide benefits to regional and global communities and make the ASEAN region the world’s engine of  sustainable growth .

For this reason, let us support Indonesia’s chairmanship for ASEAN by upholding the value of solidarity with a spirit of optimism and cooperation, by building multi-stakeholder collaborative governance to ensure the success of the 2023 ASEAN Summit which can bring benefits to the people of Southeast Asia and the world. So far, Indonesia already has a good image and is trusted by many parties to be a leader. To support this event, the security factor must be prioritized, so that no terrorists or other parties disturb it.

Don’t let Indonesia’s good name as the host be tarnished because of the security forces during the series of activities for the delegations. Because of this, the collaboration between the TNI, Polri and BIN should be appreciated in the context of the success of the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, NTT.
