Asean Summit Ends: Increase ASEAN Inclusive Cooperation Realizing Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP)

West Manggarai – President Joko Widodo invited ASEAN members to continue to enhance inclusive cooperation to implement the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and strengthen the architecture of health, food, energy and financial stability.

According to the president, collaboration, cooperation and synergy between ASEAN countries can bring ASEAN to solve various global problems. For this reason, collaboration and synergy, he continued, are also very much needed in facing the various challenges ahead.

“In this situation, we must further strengthen collaboration to maintain ASEAN as the epicenter of growth,” the President said at the ASEAN-BAC meeting.

President Jokowi in the last meeting of the 42nd ASEAN Summit also said that resolving the Myanmar conflict must be resolved through concrete and inclusive cooperation.

“Concrete and inclusive cooperation is needed in the implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo Pacific (AOIP) to reduce geopolitical tensions in the Indo Pacific region,” he said.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stressed the importance of unity so that ASEAN can become the engine of peace and growth amidst the global economic situation that has not yet fully recovered.

For this reason, ASEAN issued the ASEAN Leaders’ Statement on the Recent Attack on a Convoy of the AHA Center and ASEAN Monitoring Team in Myanmar which condemned the violence perpetrated by the Myanmar military junta.

“We support the statement by the President of the Republic of Indonesia as Chair of ASEAN on 8 May 2023 in response to the recent attack on the convoy of the AHA Center and the ASEAN Monitoring Team in Myanmar. We condemn the attack and underline that the perpetrators must be held accountable,” he wrote in the ASEAN Leaders’ Statement on the Recent Attack on a Convoy of the AHA Center and ASEAN Monitoring Team in Myanmar.
