Closing the 42nd ASEAN Summit, President Jokowi Calls for Peace in Myanmar

West Manggarai — Right on Thursday (11/5), the 2023 ASEAN Summit event was officially closed. Of course, the existence of this international event is able to encourage a variety of useful policies, including regarding the green economy and world peace.

“Thank God the 42nd ASEAN Summit has been successfully held and with good results. Indonesia wants to see ASEAN that is strong, capable of facing challenges, responsive to dynamics and still holding a central role in the region,” said the President

Then, President Joko Widodo emphasized that Indonesia would continue to strive to push for a step forward from the implementation of the 5 points of consensus. In fact, Indonesia will continue to encourage dialogue with various parties in Myanmar, including the Myanmar Military Junta.

“Calling for an end to violence and facilitating settlement through a joint need assessment through the AHA Center and also distributing humanitarian assistance,” said President Jokowi at the ASEAN Summit Media Center, NTT, Thursday (11/5).

Not only that, the head of state hopes that the Myanmar issue will not hinder ASEAN development. Because the development of ASEAN will be highly anticipated by the people.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Indonesian Parliament, Puan Maharani conveyed a message from the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) regarding issues from green economy to issues of peace.

The meeting resulted in a number of things, namely so that ASEAN regional countries are able to continue to maintain peace, unity, centrality and vitality.

Then, to encourage sustainable economic growth, ASEAN must continue to be able to maintain energy and food security.

“Secondly, to encourage strong and sustainable economic growth in the region, to enhance ASEAN’s resilience response capabilities while focusing on energy and food security in the context of a dynamic region and global community,” said Puan.

The third policy is to continue to promote a balanced and sustainable green economy and investment, which is in accordance with legal agreements and policies in ASEAN.

The fourth concerns increasing the operational efficiency of the ASEAN mechanism and its partners, including AIPA.

“Fifth, encourage innovation, transfer, application and development of science and technology for sustainable growth and development,” said the former Coordinating Minister for PMK.

Also included is the discussion of the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar, which requires ASEAN to maintain an open and inclusive mechanism to build peace and prevent conflict.
