Establishment of a Workers’ Welfare Council to Form State Attention to Worker Groups
Jakarta – The government has once again demonstrated its seriousness in responding to the aspirations and needs of workers through the plan to establish a National Workers Welfare Council. This idea has received widespread support from trade unions, academics, and social observers, as it is considered a real breakthrough to improve the quality of life of Indonesian workers.
The President of the Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, welcomed President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to accommodate the proposed formation of the council. The council will consist of members from the government, labor leaders, and academics.
“The National Workers Welfare Council was our input and was welcomed by President Prabowo. This is an extraordinary step in the history of industrial relations in Indonesia,” said Andi Gani.
According to Andi, the main focus of this council is to improve workers’ welfare as a whole, starting from providing housing, education scholarships, to compiling policy recommendations to the president regarding worker protection.
“This council will study the current situation of workers and provide strategic advice so that government policies truly side with workers,” he added.
The seriousness of the formation of this council was also conveyed by the Deputy Minister of Manpower, Immanuel Ebenezer. He stated that the Ministry of Manpower is ready to carry out President Prabowo’s executive order in realizing the formation of the Workers’ Welfare Council.
“This council will be a guarantee that workers continue to receive serious attention from the state. We are ready to work and collaborate with all stakeholders,” said Immanuel.
In line with this, Social Observer and Chair of the Expert Council of the Golden Indonesia Community Forum (Formas), Serian Wijatno, said that the formation of this council is a strategic step towards the great ideals of Golden Indonesia 2045.
“The role of workers is very crucial in national development. The upcoming demographic bonus can be a blessing if the relationship between the government, workers, and the business world is harmonious,” he said.
Serian also emphasized that a healthy correlation between workers and the government will create a conducive work climate, increase national productivity, and reduce social inequality.
“President Prabowo’s seriousness in forming this council shows a collaborative spirit in building a sustainable employment ecosystem,” he concluded.
“This plan must be viewed positively. The naming of this task force is still flexible, adjusted to the tasks and functions that will be carried out,” he said.
The formation of the DKBN is real proof that the state is present and on the side of the workers’ group. President Prabowo’s commitment to building Indonesia from the foundation of workers’ welfare deserves to be appreciated. For this reason, all elements of society, including the business world, are urged to provide full support for this initiative as an initial step towards a more prosperous and dignified life for workers.
