Government Ready to Disburse Economic Stimulus to Boost Public Purchasing Power
Jakarta — The government is rolling out various economic stimulus packages to maintain public purchasing power while also spurring national economic growth. Several members of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) have expressed their support for these policies, while emphasizing the importance of strict oversight to ensure that the programs are well-targeted and truly impactful for the people.
This measure is seen as crucial, especially ahead of the mid-year school holiday season, which typically marks a rise in household consumption.
Member of Commission XI of the DPR RI from the National Awakening Party (PKB) faction, Bertu Merlas, stated that the government is wisely seizing this moment to stimulate public purchasing power through the planned stimulus packages.
“The government has prepared an economic stimulus package. We will monitor the implementation on the ground to ensure it is effective in boosting national economic growth. Especially during the school holiday period, which usually sees a significant increase in public spending,” he said.
According to Bertu, this stimulus must be maximized through cross-sectoral collaboration, including local governments, businesses, and civil society. He also reminded that oversight of implementation is a key determinant of success.
“The stimulus already launched must be optimized with full support from all parties to ensure economic growth targets are achieved. We must not allow these efforts to be half-hearted. Without proper supervision and active involvement, the program will not be optimal,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Gerindra Party faction, Budisatrio Djiwandono, stated that the stimulus policy aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision of an inclusive economy. The stimulus directly targets the middle class and vulnerable groups that drive domestic consumption.
“The key to Indonesia’s economic growth lies in strong and growing public purchasing power. When consumption increases, all sectors of the economy will follow. This is a policy that directly touches people’s everyday lives,” Budisatrio explained.
He also emphasized that the DPR will carry out its oversight function rigorously to ensure the stimulus reaches its intended beneficiaries and avoids any leakage along the way.
“Evaluating the distribution and effectiveness of the program, including coordination among ministries and institutions, is an essential part of the DPR’s oversight function,” said Budisatrio, adding that Gerindra is fully committed to ensuring the program’s success.
Separately, Member of Commission IX of the DPR RI from the National Mandate Party (PAN) faction, Ashabul Kahfi, emphasized the need for comprehensive oversight of the Wage Subsidy Assistance (BSU) program—from initial data collection to the disbursement of funds to beneficiaries.
“We’re talking about Rp600,000 in aid, which may not seem like much in nominal terms, but for low-income earners, it’s very meaningful. We must ensure this aid is not mistargeted or, worse, fails to reach the rightful recipients,” he said.
