West Manggarai – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially opened the 42nd ASEAN Summit. In his remarks, the President used Indonesian to the guests.
“Welcome to the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo Indonesia,” said President Jokowi.
In his statement, President Jokowi reminded ASEAN leaders that the economy has not yet recovered. World rivalry is getting sharper and more unpredictable.
“ASEAN leaders that I respect, currently the global economy has not fully recovered, rivalries are getting sharper, world dynamics are increasingly unpredictable, and the question is whether ASEAN will only be a spectator, whether ASEAN will just be silent, and whether ASEAN is able to become a motor of peace. and growth,” Jokowi said at the opening of the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, NTT.
President Jokowi believes and believes that ASEAN can do it as long as it continues to uphold unity. According to him, with unity ASEAN is able to become a central player in bringing peace and growth.
Furthermore, President Jokowi is of the opinion that ASEAN countries have strong assets to become engines of economic growth far above the world average, which have the provision of demographic bonuses and regional stability.
“So that in the future ASEAN must strengthen its economic integration, also strengthen the architecture of health, food, energy and financial stability,” said the Indonesian President.
President Jokowi also appreciated the arrival of all ASEAN members who attended as a concrete step in increasing economic growth in the region.
