Inter-Institutional Synergy Effective in Combating Drugs

18

Jakarta – The eradication of drugs in Indonesia requires close collaboration between law enforcement agencies to effectively tackle the distribution of narcotics comprehensively. One example of successful synergy is between the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK). BNN Chief, Marthinus Hukom, emphasized the importance of PPATK’s role in combating money laundering crimes linked to drug networks.

“We have requested PPATK, as the head of the Money Laundering Task Force (Satgas TPPU), to optimize the impoverishment of drug network operatives,” said Marthinus.

With strong synergy, this task force is expected to sever the financial chains that fuel the drug trade.

Moreover, drug eradication efforts involve various parties such as investigators, prosecutors, and the banking sector, who work together to analyze the financial transactions of drug dealers. Marthinus added that although the concept of impoverishment has existed for a long time, its implementation has not been optimal due to drug traffickers’ efforts to conceal their assets. Through more intensive collaboration, it is hoped that deeply entrenched drug businesses can be eradicated more effectively.

Synergy between institutions is also evident in the efforts made by Banyuwangi Correctional Institution (Lapas) and the Banyuwangi National Narcotics Agency (BNNK). Head of Banyuwangi Lapas, Mochamad Mukaffi, emphasized the importance of coordinating with BNNK to monitor the circulation of drugs within the correctional facility.

“Banyuwangi Lapas currently houses many inmates involved in drug-related cases. Therefore, we continue to make efforts to maintain security and order inside the facility,” said Mukaffi.

He also mentioned that the proactive steps taken by the Lapas authorities in maintaining stability and preventing further involvement with drugs are crucial.

Mukaffi explained that by sharing information, both agencies could collaborate in preventing and tackling the increasing drug trafficking inside the facility.

Head of BNNK Banyuwangi, Kombes Faisol Wahyudi, expressed his appreciation for the established synergy.

“The synergy between BNNK and Lapas is the key to realizing a drug-free Banyuwangi,” said Faisol.

By strengthening cross-sector collaboration, it is hoped that drug eradication efforts will be more maximized and targeted.

This inter-agency synergy shows that the fight against drugs cannot be done alone. Only through solid cooperation can more effective prevention and enforcement measures be implemented to break the drug trade that damages the nation.
