West Manggarai – Labuan Bajo has been chosen to host the 42nd ASEAN Summit on 9-11 May 2023. The local community, including members of the press and business actors / MSMEs, welcomed and enthusiastic about the appointment of Labuan Bajo as the venue or main event. the international standard.

Marselun Pahun, as Chairman of the West Manggarai Journalists Association expressed his gratitude to President Joko Widodo for choosing Labuan Bajo as the host for the 42nd ASEAN Summit.

“Thank you to Mr. President Joko Widodo for choosing Labuan Bajo as the host for holding the 42nd ASEAN Summit in 2023,” said Marselun.

He also said that this moment was an opportunity to jointly grow the post-Covid-19 economy.

“The moment of growing together after Covid -19 is an opportunity to revive all MSMEs, especially friends who start up in West Manggarai Regency,” he said.

In line with Mareselun, TVRI journalist Alexander Hatol also expressed his appreciation to Mr. President Jokowi and hoped that various other international standard activities could later be held again in Labuan Bajo.

“So that international events can continue to be held in Labuan Bajo to be able to improve the people’s economy, especially MSMEs,” said Alexander.

Previously, ahead of the ASEAN Summit, Indonesian President Joko Widodo was actively reviewing the readiness of MSME actors and tourist sites in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, NTT.

Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media for the Presidential Secretariat, Bey Machmudin, said President Jokowi had ordered that all tourist destinations in Labuan Bajo be promoted to the Heads of State/Heads of Government of the ASEAN countries present.

“At the implementation of the ASEAN Summit, the President hopes that these MSME actors can present souvenirs with good quality and regional characteristics, so that guests from ASEAN countries are interested in buying these MSME products,” said Bey.

In this regard, journalist for Online Media, journalflores.com, Gecio Vianna, expressed his gratitude to President Joko Widodo because the international event was held in Labuan Bajo.

He hopes that the holding of the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo can have an economic impact on the surrounding community, especially in the tourism industry and MSMEs.

“Hopefully, holding the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo can improve various sectors in Labuan Bajo, more specifically in the tourism and creative industry sectors to encourage MSME players to be competitive,” he said.

Meanwhile, Main Director of the Labuan Bajo Flores Tourism Authority Executing Agency (BPOLBF), Shana Fatina said that, her party was working with the NTT Provincial Government, West Manggarai Regency Government and NTT Dekranasda, proposing products typical of NTT such as coffee, processed moringa leaves, weaving results so that they can be shown to the delegates as one of the efforts to promote local MSME products to the world.

“What we have submitted (data) to friends from the State Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are 70 MSMEs. Dekranasda has also prepared Hampers which contain all MSME products in Labuan Bajo,” said Shana.

It is hoped that the ASEAN Summit will be able to have a positive impact and economic benefits for both tourism actors, local MSMEs and the community in West Manggarai Regency in particular and the people of NTT in general.
