President Prabowo Supports Peaceful Resolution of Middle East Crisis in Working Visit to Saudi
Saudi Arabia – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, made a state visit to Saudi Arabia to discuss various strategic issues, including Middle East regional peace and strengthening bilateral cooperation. This visit received positive attention because it marked Indonesia’s commitment to playing an active role on the global diplomatic stage, especially amidst increasing geopolitical tensions in regions such as Palestine, Yemen, Syria, and Sudan.
Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, said that the meeting between President Prabowo and Saudi Arabian leaders covered various important agendas.
“There are several agendas that will be discussed by the two leaders of the country. Certainly they will talk about political cooperation, both Indonesian politics with Saudi Arabia and politics in the Middle East,” said Prasetyo.
Furthermore, the meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) resulted in many agreements, one of which was regarding the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. During the state visit to Saudi Arabia, Prabowo and MBS called for real action from the international community to address the humanitarian crises in Palestine, Yemen, Syria, and Sudan.
“The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening coordination to maintain peace and security in the region,” said an official statement released by the Palace, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.
Discussions on the conflict and stability of the Middle East region were key points in the meeting with Saudi leaders. President Prabowo emphasized his commitment to take an active role in efforts for peace and stability in the region, given the increasing geopolitical tensions in several countries such as Yemen, Syria, and Palestine.
Regarding Palestine, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia expressed deep concern over the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. Both condemned the Israeli blockade and the use of starvation as a weapon, and strongly rejected attempts to forcibly transfer Palestinians.
“We call on the international community to act immediately to stop Israeli aggression and uphold international law,” the two said in a written statement.
Regarding the conflict in Yemen, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia emphasized the importance of an inclusive political solution and maintaining the integrity of the country. Indonesia welcomed the Kingdom’s initiative in encouraging dialogue and providing humanitarian and economic assistance.
“We fully support efforts for a peaceful resolution and appreciate Saudi Arabia’s contribution to facilitating reconciliation in Yemen,” they said.
Both countries also stressed the importance of maintaining stability in the Red Sea and ensuring freedom of navigation for the sake of global interests. Then, regarding the conflict in Sudan, both countries stressed the importance of continuing the Jeddah Forum as a means of negotiating peace and a ceasefire. The goal is to end the crisis, protect the Sudanese people, and maintain national integrity.
“We support a regionally led peace process to save Sudan from further destruction,” the joint statement said.
Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the House of Representatives, Dave Laksono, expressed support for the government’s steps in encouraging a peaceful resolution through multilateral diplomacy in responding to the current conflict and war situation in the Middle East.
“Our main principle is to uphold world peace and reject all forms of military aggression that threaten regional stability,” Dave said.
Dave expressed his deep concern over the escalation of conflict in the Middle East. According to him, this condition will have an impact on geopolitics to the world economy, so Indonesia must be prepared to face some of its impacts.
“I am deeply concerned about the latest escalation in the Middle East, following the United States’ open attack on three key Iranian nuclear sites. This is a significant escalation of the conflict, with potential global geopolitical implications,” he said.
Dave believes that Indonesia has the potential to emerge as a moral and balancing force in complex international dynamics, by utilizing its strategic position as the world’s largest archipelagic country and a non-aligned country.
“The world does not need new conflicts, let alone global war. Indonesia must appear as a moral force and a balancer in increasingly complex international dynamics,” he said.
This state visit not only reflects Indonesia’s strategic role in building global peace, but also shows the direction of President Prabowo’s leadership which prioritizes stability, solidarity, and peaceful solutions for the future of the region and the world.
