Jakarta – Indonesia is ready to welcome the 2023 ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara. As the host of the 42nd ASEAN Summit, Indonesia carries the big theme “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth”, to illustrate how Indonesia, with its chairmanship, continues to make ASEAN relevant and important for the Indonesian people and for the people of ASEAN.

Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi said the ASEAN 2023 theme consisted of two major elements, namely ASEAN Matters and the Epicentrum of Growth.

“The first element is ASEAN Matters. How can Indonesia, with its chairmanship, continue to make ASEAN relevant and important not only for the Indonesian people, but also for the people of ASEAN and beyond. So there is a beyond, outside of ASEAN,” said Retno to the media.

The second element, continued Retno, ASEAN as a center of growth shows that economic growth in the ASEAN region always grows higher than other countries outside ASEAN.

For information, at the 41st ASEAN Summit in Cambodia on 13 November 2022, Indonesia received the mandate to hold the ASEAN 2023 Chairmanship. Likewise, in 2023, Indonesia will host the 42nd ASEAN Summit 2023.

Indonesia has indeed won a lot of trust from the international community in organizing global standard events.

Regarding communication infrastructure, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics or Kominfo has prepared infrastructure to support the smooth running of the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo. The total available BTS towers are 1,635 sites. The telecommunication infrastructure is traversed by a 3,773 kilometer fiber optic network.

“Especially for holding the 2023 ASEAN Summit on May 9 to 11, the Telkom Group has also taken anticipatory steps, such as upgrading BTS towers,” said Head of the Central Telecommunication Monitoring Team, Indra Apriadi.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Information and Public Communication (IKP) Kominfo, Usman Kansong, said public communication support would be carried out in the form of exposure in various media. The target is that there will be at least 300 to 500 media involved in covering the ASEAN Summit.

“We will also provide support in the form of managing the official website for Indonesia’s leadership in Asean 2023, namely asean2023.id, as well as managing online media registration,” Usman Kansong told the media crew.

At the 2023 Asean Summit, Kominfo holds three roles, namely providing communication infrastructure, carrying out public communications, and conveying substance regarding digitalization and the digital economy.

On the other hand, Deputy Deputy Regent of West Manggarai, dr. Yulianus Weng, M.Kes, said that the community is working together to make the ASEAN Summit successful in Labuan Bajo.

“One of the efforts in the successful implementation of the ASEAN Summit is to maintain public order and security in their respective environments, both in the residential environment, workplace environment and in the school environment for students,” said Vice Regent Weng.

According to him, there will be a positive impact if guests feel comfortable living in Labuan Bajo, namely there will be economic value. In addition to maintaining security and order as well as environmental cleanliness, the Vice Regent Weng also appealed to the community to prioritize hospitality in welcoming guests and tourists. *
