Optimizing Preparation for the ASEAN Summit, President Jokowi Issues a Presidential Decree

Jakarta — Indonesia hosted the 42nd ASEAN Summit. Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) appointed Labuan Manggarai Barat, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), as the venue for the series of ASEAN Summits.

To support the smooth running of Indonesia’s Chairmanship in ASEAN 2023, President Jokowi has officially signed a Presidential Decree (Keppres) on the National Committee for Indonesia’s Chair at the ASEAN Summit which will be held on 9-11 May 2023.

In the Presidential Decree Number 5 of 2023, it is clearly written that the National Committee has the duty to be able to prepare the entire series of activities properly.

“Planning, preparing, coordinating and organizing a series of activities, both in substance as well as technical and logistical aspects, in order to support the implementation of the duties and obligations of the President of the Republic of Indonesia as Chair of ASEAN in 2023,” said the Presidential Decree.

In fact, it is not only limited to how technical activities are carried out, but the National Committee also has the task of planning the entire budget for the preparation and implementation of the ASEAN Summit.

“Arrange and establish a work plan and budget for the preparation and implementation of a series of activities for the Indonesian Chair in ASEAN in 2023,” in the Presidential Decree.

The aspects of security, smoothness and order in the implementation of the ASEAN Summit are also things that are maximized by the National Committee.

“To prepare and organize the activities of the 42nd ASEAN Summit and the 43rd ASEAN Summit as well as a series of other ASEAN meetings as well as possible so that they can run safely, smoothly and in an orderly manner,” said the Presidential Decree.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has also been working on other preparations, such as digital infrastructure and the quality of telecommunication networks.

According to Acting Director General of Post and Information Administration (PPI) of the Ministry of Communication and Information, Ismail, that his party has prepared an adequate infrastructure network to support the 2023 ASEAN Summit.

“For the 2023 ASEAN Summit which will be held in Labuan Bajo, the Ministry of Communication and Information has ensured the readiness of telecommunications network infrastructure in the region,” he said

Even now, most areas in Labuan Bajo can access telecommunications networks smoothly, including 5G signals at several points.

“Even in residential areas, around 94.51 percent has been covered, and at several points there is 5G signal coverage,” said Ismail.

It is the duty of the Ministry of Communication and Information to ensure and provide smooth telecommunication networks, especially for the 2023 ASEAN Summit.

“One of the tasks of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics is to provide telecommunications networks and internet access so that the 2023 ASEAN chairmanship will run smoothly,” he said.

Related to this, TVRI journalists in Kab. West Manggarai, Alexander Hatol highly appreciated the implementation of the ASEAN Summit which was held in Labuan Bajo, NTT. Alexander hopes that the ASEAN Summit activities in Labuan Bajo can be held successfully.

“It is hoped that international activities or events will continue to be held in Labuan Bajo to improve the people’s economy,” he said. *
