Jakarta – In order to support the smooth running of the ASEAN Summit (Summit) on 9-11 May 2023, PLN has prepared 108 charging stations or Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU).

This effort is needed to meet the needs of around 375 units of electric vehicles prepared for delegation, security and operations at the 2023 ASEAN Summit.

Main Director of PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo emphasized that PLN is ready to fully support the use of electric vehicles at the ASEAN Summit. According to him, this step shows Indonesia’s readiness in carrying out the energy transition.

“This is the umpteenth time that Indonesia has taken on international leadership, having previously held leadership in the G20 in 2022. At the event, Indonesia successfully demonstrated very strong leadership and was a good host. We will show this again at the 2023 ASEAN Summit,” said Darmawan.

Previously, PT PLN (Persero) had inaugurated the Flores Control Center to ensure that the electricity supply monitoring system in Labuan Bajo was running well.

“The presence of this Control Center will certainly make electricity on the island of Flores more reliable, so that it is very ready for the ASEAN Summit,” said General Manager of PLN Main Unit for the East Nusa Tenggara Region, I Gede Agung Sindu Putra.

Within the Flores Control Center there is the Flores Regional Control Center (RCC) and the Maumere Distribution Control Center (DCC) which are the control center for the Flores system’s electricity distribution from Labuan Bajo to Maumere and the control center for the Flores Island electricity distribution.

“Not only for the ASEAN Summit, with this reliable system we (PLN) are optimistic that it will help increase people’s productivity,” continued Sindu.

Sindu added that Flores’ readiness to face the ASEAN Summit was also supported by several types of power plants, including gas engine power plants (PLTMG), geothermal power plants (PLTP), diesel power plants (PLTD), steam power plants (PLTU), mini-hydro power plants (PLTM) and solar power plants (PLTS) spread across Labuan Bajo to Maumere. Channeled through 70 kilo Volt (kV) and 150 kV High Voltage Air Lines (SUTT) as well as a 20 kV distribution network.

Meanwhile, RCC Flores currently operates 9 70 kV substations (GI) and 2 150 kV GIs, and 70 kV SUTT transmission along 819,474 km circuit (kms) consisting of 1,250 tower units, and 150 kV SUTT along 51,780 kms and as many as 77 towers have been built from Labuan Bajo to Maumere.

“Thus the RCC and DCC facilities become the controller and oversight of the entire Flores Island electricity system for 24 hours, where the source of electrical energy is from power plants in Labuan Bajo, Ruteng, Ende, Ropa, Maumere, Larantuka and its surroundings,” concluded Sindu.
