The Government Strengthens the Young Generation through the MBG Program, Improving Student Nutrition and Concentration

Jakarta – The government, through its flagship program “Eat? Nutritious? Free?” (MBG), is now reaching students across Indonesia, taking concrete steps to improve nutrition and enhance concentration in school. This program has received special attention from the government as part of developing superior human resources.
In a speech at a plenary cabinet meeting, President Prabowo emphasized that improving children’s welfare is a key commitment of the government he leads.
“None of our children should be hungry. Our children should not go to school with an empty stomach. This is the determination of the government that I lead,” stressed the President.
The President also emphasized that the MBG program is not just about providing food, but is an investment in the nation’s future.
“Free Nutritious Meals is not merely a social program, but rather a foundation for creating a healthy, intelligent, and productive generation,” said the President.
Furthermore, the President emphasized that improving nutrition during school is very important because it impacts concentration and learning outcomes.
“The study results show that MBG significantly increases students’ motivation, attendance, and concentration in learning,” Prabowo explained.
Continuing this direction, Abdul Mu’ti, as Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, stated that the MBG program is now entering the refinement stage to ensure the quality of services in schools.
“The MBG program is a priority for the President. Therefore, our Ministry is in a position to support its implementation,” said Abdul.
Abdul Mu’ti revealed that his party is opening up opportunities for schools to manage MBG independently through a “school kitchen” scheme to more quickly respond to local needs.
“It is possible for some schools to become organizers of MBG on a school-by-school basis… but they must meet the standards of the National Nutrition Agency,” Abdul said.
Recent information indicates that the House of Representatives (DPR), through the People’s Representative Council (DPRD), also supports strengthening this scheme. In a meeting on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, representatives from the relevant commissions promoted the school kitchen option as an alternative to ensure the hygiene and palatability of schoolchildren.
This is in line with the government’s performance record that the MBG program has increased student attendance at school and improved the quality of learning, especially in areas previously with low breakfast rates.
Through synergy between the President, the Ministry of Education, and relevant institutions, the government is strengthening evaluation, distributing nutritious food, and increasing the capacity of implementing schools. These steps demonstrate its commitment to strengthening the foundations for learning and the growth and development of Indonesia’s young generation. Moving forward, the government ensures that the implementation of the MBG will continue to be expanded, its quality improved, and its benefits increasingly felt throughout the country.
With a strong commitment and concrete work on the ground, the MBG program demonstrates the government’s presence and commitment to a healthier, smarter, and more competitive generation. The government believes that through consistent support and implementation, Indonesia will produce a superior generation ready to compete in the global era.*
