The Use of Electric Vehicles at the ASEAN Summit Real Commitment to Indonesia’s Energy Transition

Labuan Bajo – The government continues to be committed to the energy transition. One of these efforts is the use of electric vehicles at the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo.

The Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said that he had at least two targets for leading the economic discussion for the ASEAN Summit, namely pushing for a Digital Economic Framework Agreement (DEFA) and discussing the electric vehicle ecosystem in Southeast Asia.

“So, the EV [electric vehicle] ecosystem in ASEAN is one that will also be encouraged at the meeting in Labuan Bajo [Asean Summit],” said the Coordinating Minister for Airlangga.

The development of the electric vehicle ecosystem in ASEAN is believed to have an impact on Indonesia, both its position as an electric vehicle producing country and a country that has battery raw materials.

Meanwhile, guests of the delegation of the 42nd ASEAN Summit will certainly use electric vehicles. For this reason, PLN has provided 108 SPKLUs to meet the needs of 375 vehicles. Consisting of 195 cars for delegates, 91 security motorbikes and 89 operational vehicles.

Main Director of PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo revealed that PLN is ready to fully support the use of electric vehicles in the ASEAN Summit. This step shows Indonesia’s readiness in carrying out the energy transition.

“Not only ensuring the reliability of electricity supply, PLN also ensures the availability of sufficient SPKLU to meet the needs of vehicles during the ASEAN Summit. We have installed them at strategic points to support the smooth running of the event,” said Darmawan.

Meanwhile, PLN’s Labuan Bajo Customer Service Unit (ULP) Manager Ridwan revealed that the procurement of electric vehicles was carried out by the Ministry of State Secretariat.

The Ministry of State Secretariat (Kemensetneg) appreciates the support of automotive companies in Indonesia in the context of the success of the 2023 ASEAN Summit or Summit on May 9-11 in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.

Last April, BMW Group Indonesia handed over 13 BMW iX vehicles to the Ministry of State Secretariat as the official vehicles of the presidents and prime ministers of member countries of the 42nd ASEAN Summit.

Most recently, Wuling Motors officially handed over 50 units of Air ev symbolically to the Ministry of State Secretariat. This electric car from China will carry out the task of being the official car partner of the 2023 ASEAN Summit, which will support the mobility of the delegates from 9-11 May 2023 in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.

Shi Guoyong, President Director of Wuling Motors said, he was very proud to be able to return to overcast Indonesia in its important role on the international stage, namely the 2023 ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo.
