TNI, BIN and Polri Ready to Secure ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo

West Manggarai – The TNI, the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) and the National Police continue to work together in terms of securing the holding of the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo.

Pangdam IX/Udayana Major General TNI Sonny Aprianto, SE, MM said that the personnel who are members of the Security Task Force (Pam) maximize regional security given to VVIP officials and delegates attending the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo.

“It is hoped that all officials who have been appointed and involved in securing the activities of the 42nd Asean Summit will immediately carry out preparations and checks on equipment and personnel, as well as the place of activity, so that later there will not be the slightest mistake,” said the Military Commander, while chairing the security coordination meeting. Based on the experience of successfully securing the G20 Bali Summit in 2022, the Military Commander expressed his hope that at the 42nd Asean Summit event this time everything could run well and smoothly.

Head of Police Public Relations Division, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, also said that securing the 2023 ASEAN Summit would guide the success of securing the G20 Summit in Bali.

“It was prepared based on the G20 security success story,” he told the media.

Previously, the National Police Chief conveyed a mandate to the ranks that there were several national and international agendas that required extra security so that they could run safely, smoothly and under control.

“The National Police has experienced a success story when securing the G20 Summit, we have prepared the ASEAN Summit well, so that our nation’s name is fragrant in the eyes of the international community,” said the National Police Chief.

Meanwhile, to secure the waters, Polri Headquarters provided two units of type C1 patrol boats, named KP Pulo Pomana and KP Pulo Padar, to the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Regional Police (Polda), in order to support and improve services to the community.

“We are grateful to the National Police leadership for providing two ships that are quite large for NTT. This ship is really needed,” said NTT Police Chief Inspector General of Police Johnny Asadoma.

These ships, continued Johnny, are used for trans-national crime prevention operations as well as search and rescue, as well as protection for the community.

“We can see here that there is human trafficking, illegal fishing and use to help marine accidents,” he said.

Johnny added that one unit will be placed in Labuan Bajo and another in Rote Ndao.

“Security for the ASEAN Summit will be shifted by a ship there, to help the TNI secure the heads of state who will be attending in Labuan Bajo,” said Johnny.

Meanwhile, the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) also ensures the security of the areas which are the main venues and their surroundings for the ASEAN Summit. Apart from that, BIN also anticipates a number of terror threats and other disturbances, so that the ASEAN Summit can run safely and smoothly. []
