Bali once again becomes the venue for two international events that not only position Indonesia as a key player on the global stage but also reinforce the spirit of solidarity and cooperation among developing countries, namely the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) and the High-Level Forum on Multi Stakeholders Partnership (HLF-MSP) 2024. Both forums, held simultaneously, brought a sense of euphoria that resonated throughout Bali and its surroundings, signaling the significance of these meetings for the future of more inclusive and sustainable global development.

The main theme of the 2nd IAF, “Bandung Spirit for Africa’s Agenda 2063,” evokes memories of the Asia-Africa Conference in 1955, which laid the foundation for solidarity among developing countries. In that spirit, the 2nd IAF is here to strengthen strategic cooperation between Indonesia and African countries in four priority sectors: food security, energy security, health security, and mineral security. This forum not only focuses on enhancing diplomatic relations but also paves the way for diversifying export markets, expanding commodity supplies, and increasing foreign investment.

Meanwhile, HLF-MSP 2024, which carries the theme “Strengthening Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships: Towards a Transformative Change,” serves as an important platform to strengthen cross-sector partnerships among government, civil society organizations, the private sector, and academia. This forum is designed to be a catalyst for innovative solutions in addressing global challenges, including efforts to narrow the development gap between countries in the South and the North.

On various occasions, President Joko Widodo has emphasized the importance of inclusive and mutually beneficial cooperation that can drive sustainable economic growth.
Undoubtedly, the euphoria surrounding Bali during the 2nd IAF and HLF-MSP 2024 was very palpable. Since the first day, Bali has been filled with delegations from various African countries and leaders from different sectors who have come with great hopes for a better future through closer cooperation. This atmosphere is reflected not only in the various meetings and discussions that are taking place intensively, but also in the cultural events held in different corners of Bali, showcasing the richness of Indonesian and African cultures in beautiful harmony.

The festivities were also accompanied by a strong sense of optimism, both from the participants and international observers. The forum participants agreed that both events provide new energy for efforts to strengthen solidarity among developing countries. High-ranking officials from Indonesia involved in the event expressed that the euphoria felt in Bali is proof that developing countries have significant potential ready to be optimized through more intensive cooperation.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Pahala Mansury, stated that the closeness between Indonesia and African countries is not something new, but has strong roots since the Asia-Africa Conference. According to him, this second IAF serves as the right momentum to revive that spirit of togetherness in a context that is more relevant to the current global challenges. He added that through this forum, Indonesia and Africa have the opportunity to learn from each other and share experiences in addressing various challenges, including issues of climate change, energy resilience, and global health.

On the other hand, the Director of Foreign Policy and International Development Cooperation at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, Hendra Wahanu Prabandani, emphasized that HLF-MSP 2024 is a continuation of Indonesia’s success in leading previous international forums, such as the G20 presidency. He believes that this forum demonstrates how Indonesia is capable of fostering inclusive and productive multi-stakeholder partnerships, which will ultimately provide tangible benefits for global development.

The success of the 2nd IAF and HLF-MSP 2024 lies not only in the number of agreements reached or the value of investments generated, but also in the spirit of togetherness that was fostered during the course of both forums. This spirit, reflected in various discussions, presentations, and agreements reached, offers hope that developing countries can unite to create a brighter and more sustainable future.

This forum also emphasizes that Indonesia and African countries play a crucial role in creating a more just and inclusive global order. Closer collaboration between these nations will be key in addressing global challenges, including efforts to tackle economic disparities, strengthen food security, and maintain energy stability.

The euphoria felt in Bali during the 2nd IAF and HLF-MSP 2024 is a reflection of the great hopes for a better future. With a strong spirit of solidarity, inclusive cooperation, and close partnerships, Indonesia and African countries are ready to step into a new era filled with opportunities and hope. This is the time for the Global South to shine and show that together, any challenge can be overcome and a better future can be realized.
