President Joko Widodo has asked that the preparation of the Special Economic Zone (KEK) in Sorong, West Papua, to be completed immediately. But he asked that all aspects to be prepared thoroughly, including the infrastructure and transportation.
“We need to also consider the necessity of KEK in Papua. It relates to material availability. Electricity is important,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi added that compared to other provinces, Papua is still behind. The Central Statistics Agency of Papua reported that export has been downhill by 51 percent this year.
Therefore, Jokowi underlines the importance of infrastructure in KEK realization, as a means to better distribute the goods. “Sea toll road must be integrated to industrial zone and production center in Papua,” he said.
