RI Ambassador Dies of Injuries from Pakistan Heli Crash
After being in intensive care for more than one week, the Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan Burhan Muhammad died. He died after suffering serious burns.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi said that Burhan died at Singapore General Hospital in the early hours this morning. “Ambassador Burhan Muhammad passed away at about 00:50 local time,” he told Tempo, Tuesday, May 19, 2015.
Previously, Burhan and his wife Hery Listyawati had a helicopter accident in Pakistan while en route to an invitation from the Prime Minister of Pakistan on May 8, 2015. The helicopter crashed in the mountains of Pakistan Gilgit due to engine problems.
Burhan wife died at the scene while Burhan had survived despite severe burns. Burhan was undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital since May 12, 2015.
Several times, he underwent surgery to treat the burns. Retno said that currently, Burhan’s body is still in Singapore. “The body will be immediately sent back to get an ovation from the Foreign Ministry,” he said.
