Some days ago, we heard of Ministry of Agriculture did “Blusukan” to some district in Indonesia. The result was Indonesia successful export corn to some country.
The successful of self sufficient of corn, must be followed by other district to fulfill the national needing of primary commodity.
This year, Kapuas Regency provides 50 Ha to develop onion commodity. The government assumes that Kapuas is very good to develop onion in his area.
It was said by Chief of planting and Horticulture of Kapuas Regency, Rengkesit, like quote in Borneo news, Tuesday (4/8/2015). “We have developed onion commodity since 2013,” said Rengkesit.
This year, said Him, Kapuas gets allocation of 40,5 ton onion seed super Philip for 50 Ha from Department of agriculture and husbandry Central Kalimantan Province. Potential districts to develop onion are district of selat, dadahup, mantangi, Kapuas timur, tamban catur and Kapuas barat. “Developing onion in Kapuas give good benefit to the farmer,” said Him.
Moreover, Rengkesit added that onion can be harvest on 55 days. “Ideally the age of onion is 55 days then can be good harvest,” said Him.
Then, He claimed that onion commodity need special treatment, starting from cultivation technique, seed treatment, land treatment, maintenance and weeding. Then, farmer must be care the plant of the rain water and dew. “Onion planting must be water, if they got rain or dew have high acid contents, then onion leaf will be rotten till tuber,” said Him.
