AMN is a place for character building and leadership
Based on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 106 of 2021, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) besides Surabaya plans to rebuild the Nusantara Student Dormitory (AMN) in several areas such as Manado, Makassar, Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Malang.
AMN is a forum for uniting students from various ethnic groups, languages, cultures and religions who come from various regions throughout Indonesia and from various tertiary institutions.
The construction of the AMN in Surabaya which will be inaugurated on 29 November 2022 by President Jokowi is one of the efforts of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) to unite outstanding students from various ethnicities, languages, cultures and religions; who come from various regions in Indonesia and are multi-university in nature and are projected to become the candidate for the nation’s oemimoin character with diversity and an archipelago perspective.
The construction of AMN is carried out in accordance with Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 106 of 2021 concerning Archipelago Student Dormitories (AMN). President Jokowi then appointed BIN as a catalyst for the development of AMN in Surabaya.
Aside from being a catalyst, BIN also has a program to provide guidance on several student activities at AMN. The aim is to increase competence and understanding of nationalism, citizenship, Pancasila student character, state defense, entrepreneurship, leadership, and pioneering.
The Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa has prepared two lands for AMN development, namely in Surabaya and in Malang. AMN in Surabaya has been built on an area of 1.5 hectares. Khofifah also stated that the development of AMN in Malang would be prepared with a land area of 1.5 hectares.
“After Surabaya, we have also prepared land in the city of Malang. There is also an option for the municipal government in Malang to get land from the provincial government. The area is the same 1.5 hectares in Malang,” said Khofifah.
Gumilar, a consultant for the construction of the Archipelago Student Dormitory from the University of Indonesia (UI), revealed that the designed dormitory capacity can accommodate 500 students. Inside the hostel there are not only rooms, but also a library and training room.
“The entrepreneurship development room, where they will be fostered by national values, invited to integrate with one another to build multicultural traditions and multicultural values and instill commitment to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Gumilar.
