ASEAN Summit 2023 Increase Economic Growth and Tourism in NTT

Mabar – Holding the ASEAN Summit 2023 in Labuan Bajo, will be the best momentum to continue to encourage and promote the region to become a super priority tourist destination.

After the success of the Group of Twenty Presidency event (G-20 Summit), Indonesia is again entrusted with playing a very important role on the international stage, where this nation was appointed as the 2023 ASEAN Chair or the 2023 ASEAN Chairmanship.

The ASEAN Summit 2023 event is getting closer, and for the first time Labuan Bajo, which is located in West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara will host an international standard event.

Central and regional governments continue to intensify a number of venue preparations for the ASEAN Summit which will be held in the Meeting, Incentive, Convention, and Exhibition (MICE) area.

The people of West Manggarai Regency, especially the people of Golo Mori Village, were very happy and enthusiastic about this event. The village that used to be isolated and left behind has now become a Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

West Manggarai Regent, Edistasius Endi explained that West Manggarai Regency to become a place for international scale activities is the dream of every Regional Government (Pemda).

“I think this is the dream of all local governments so that their area is chosen to be the venue for an international scale event,” said Endi.

He wants people to feel the impact of the ASEAN Summit to start preparing quality products to be served during the event.

“It’s not only Labuan Bajo that is getting better known, but I want people to feel the direct impact of this ASEAN Summit,” said Endi.

He also appealed to the public to always maintain security and environmental stability ahead of and during the implementation of the 2023 ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo.

“When this is not conducive it will become a nightmare and it could end up being what was originally set in Labuan Bajo will shift to another place, this is the most important thing we have to take care of,” said Endi.

His party really appreciates President Jokowi’s decision to designate Labuan Bajo as the 42nd ASEAN Summit Venue. With this international event, it is hoped that it will have an impact on West Manggarai’s economic growth and sustainable development to tourism.
