JAKARTA – As Ramadan and Idulfitri 2025 approach, the government is ensuring that food supplies remain secure and prices stay stable.

Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, emphasized that strategic measures have been prepared to ensure adequate food supply and price control.

“God willing, everything will go smoothly. Please keep us in your prayers,” said Zulkifli Hasan.

The government is working to keep prices affordable, particularly for nine essential commodities (sembako), including rice, sugar, cooking oil, beef and chicken, eggs, milk, corn, salt, as well as kerosene and LPG gas.

“The stock is sufficient, and the prices are affordable. We have held several coordination meetings,” he added.

In line with this, the Acting Secretary-General of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), Sarwo Edhy, stated that the government continues to work on balancing food supply and prices to ensure the public can carry out their fasting during Ramadan peacefully.

“During Ramadan and Idulfitri, food demand typically increases, and this must be anticipated to ensure inflation, particularly food inflation, remains controlled. Therefore, we must ensure smooth distribution and affordable prices,” he said.

To prevent price hikes, the government has prepared various strategic measures, including conducting market operations in different regions to curb the potential rise in the prices of essential goods.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture (Mentan), Andi Amran Sulaiman, who also serves as the Acting Food Coordination Minister, confirmed that, following President Prabowo’s directive, the government aims to keep the prices of essential commodities stable.

“According to President Prabowo’s directive, we expect prices of essential commodities to remain stable, and if possible, even lower than last year,” he said.

Mentan explained that the government has prepared a market operation mechanism, including planning the volume of commodities to be distributed, determining the prices of commodities, and selecting the locations for market operations.

“We want that during the holy month of Ramadan, everyone observing fasting can smile because prices are stable. Our task as regulators and policymakers is to ensure producers, such as farmers and breeders, still benefit, while consumers get fair prices,” he added.

Mentan Amran also assured that essential commodities would be sufficiently available during Ramadan.

“Rice is safe, which is the most important, as its contribution to inflation is quite significant. Meat, onions, and other essential goods are also safe. We’ve carried out monitoring and coordination meetings to ensure stocks are available and sufficient,” he concluded.
