Jakarta – The government’s progressive steps in strengthening child protection in the digital space through the Government Regulation on the Governance of the Implementation of Electronic Systems for Child Protection (PP TUNAS) are starting to show real impact, both at the national and global levels.

This policy demonstrates the government’s commitment to creating a safe, healthy, and nurturing digital ecosystem that supports the growth and development of the younger generation amidst rapid technological transformation.

Amid growing global concerns about exposure to age-inappropriate digital content, Indonesia has emerged as one of the countries taking decisive and measured action. The government has not only established regulations but also ensured their implementation through active collaboration with various international digital platforms.

This approach demonstrates that child protection in the digital space requires strong and sustained cross-sectoral collaboration.

The Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, emphasized that PP TUNAS is part of the state’s commitment to protecting children from the risks of an increasingly complex digital world.

“PP TUNAS is a manifestation of the government’s presence in ensuring that Indonesian children have a safe and healthy digital space. We want digital platforms to be not only spaces for expression, but also spaces for protection,” he said.

He also appreciated the swift action taken by a number of global platforms that demonstrated their commitment to this regulation.

A positive response also came from digital platforms. Danny Ardianto, Head of Government Relations and Public Policy for YouTube Asia Pacific, stated that they fully support the Indonesian government’s policy.

“We align with the Indonesian government in its efforts to protect children in the digital space. This is not only about regulatory compliance, but also part of our responsibility,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Arifah Fauzi, assessed the implementation of PP TUNAS as an important milestone in strengthening the child protection system.

“The state is here to ensure every child is protected, including in the digital space,” he said.

With continuously strengthened implementation and support from various stakeholders, PP TUNAS is proof that the government is not only responsive to technological developments, but also proactive in protecting the nation’s future generations, thus presenting a safer, more inclusive, and more sustainable digital future for Indonesia.
