CIDISS – Watermelon is a fruit which are many people like to eat. By the large of the land farm in Indonesia, it should there are many people plant the watermelon.
Farmer in Henda village, Jabiren Raya sub-district, Pulang Pisau regency, Central Kalimantan Province plants watermelon. From the cultivation, every year, the farmer produced 294 tons watermelon.
It is said by head village of Henda, Teguh, as in Borneonews. “Every year, farmer cultivated 294 tons watermelon in 20 hectare of farm land,” he said.
In the production, Teguh said, the seed is from type of Amara watermelon. “In 70 days, they can cultivated, but only once in a year,” he said.
But, the number of watermelon’s farmer in Henda village decrease, from 45 farmers, has decreased a half from total number. They are bankrupt because the limited of capital. Not only capital, but also the road access is another factors.
Regarding to the case, he hope the farmer will be get any concern from regional government and give any assistance. And then, the farmer will be more spirit.
Regarding to the issue, Regent of Pulang Pisau, Edy Pratowo, hope the farmer able to keep and increase the job as farmer of watermelon. And then, in the future, watermelon can be as characteristic of Henda Village and Pulang Pisau regency.
“I request to head Board of Agriculture, in order to give assistance for farmer, in form of socialization, monitoring, farming tool, fertilizer and seed”.
