Jakarta – The Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program launched by the government has received widespread support from various parties as a strategic step to improve community welfare. This program is designed to ensure that school children receive nutritious food, while empowering local communities through the provision of food supplies.
Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Arifah Fauzi, emphasized the importance of local community involvement in the success of the MBG program. She explained that this program is not only beneficial for students in schools, but also has a significant economic impact on local communities.
“We are trying to ensure that the food supplies used, such as fish in Bali, are purchased from local fishermen. This is a form of support to improve the economy of the surrounding community. This program is expected to open up opportunities for farmers, fishermen, and local communities to be involved in meeting food needs in schools,” said Arifah Fauzi when met in Jakarta.
This approach is considered very effective in creating a sustainable supply chain. In addition to securing food needs for students, this program also opens up economic opportunities for small business actors, such as farmers and fishermen, so that they can directly benefit from government policies.
In West Sumatra (Sumbar), Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah showed a high commitment in realizing the MBG program. He emphasized that cross-party collaboration is the main key to the success of this program.
“This program must not fail in Sumbar. Together with Forkopimda and related agencies, we are ready to work hard so that this program runs successfully,” said Mahyeldi in a press conference in Padang.
Mahyeldi also explained the concrete steps that will be taken, including utilizing local resources to the maximum. “We plan to involve culinary vocational schools and Islamic boarding schools in its implementation. In fact, unused provincial facilities will be used as central kitchens to support this program,” he added.
This step is considered strategic, considering the great potential of Sumbar in providing quality food ingredients, such as seafood and local agricultural products. Collaboration with Islamic boarding schools and culinary vocational schools is also expected to provide education to the community about the importance of a healthy diet and balanced nutrition.
The success of the MBG program cannot be separated from community support. By procuring food from local farmers, ranchers, and fishermen, this program not only ensures the nutritional quality of school children but also creates a mutually beneficial economic ecosystem. Experts also believe that active community involvement in this program can strengthen food security at the local level. Thus, the MBG program is expected to be a long-term solution to reduce stunting rates and improve the quality of Indonesia’s human resources.
