Jakarta – Many people say that the name Erick Thohir is a strong candidate to become General Chair of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI).
Secretary General of PSSI, Yunus Nusi considers that the SOE Minister will get support from the majority of PSSI voters at the Extraordinary Congress (KLB) which will be held at the Shangri-la Hotel Jakarta, Thursday (16/2) tomorrow.
Furthermore, Yunus Nusi added that Erick Thohir has a wealth of experience in the world of football.
He also felt that PSSI would be held by the right person if the SOE Minister was elected as Ketum.
“What I see from Mr. Erick Thohir is that he will be able to give his best for Indonesian football. He has reliable experience and ability. His passion is in football. I hope that national football in his hands will get better, “explained Yunus Nusi.
Meanwhile, the CEO of Kalteng Putra FC, Agustiar Sabran, said that of the five candidates for the PSSI chairman, Erick Thohir was a strong candidate.
“Regarding the existing PSSI chairperson candidates, I see that Mr. Erick Thohir has a great chance of being elected. He has quality and experience,” he said.
On another occasion, the Chairman of the Bangka Belitung Provincial Association (Asprov) PSSI, Mintradjaya also stated his support for Erick Thohir to become the PSSI Chairperson. He considered that the capacity of the BUMN Minister in the world of sports was suitable to lead PSSI. Not only that, but Erick Thohir also has a close relationship with FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
“The capacity of Erick Thohir, who once owned the Inter Milan club and understands football, is one of the reasons he deserves to lead PSSI. Erick also has a close relationship with FIFA President Gianni Infantino and sponsors, which can help develop national football,” said Mintradjaya.
On the other hand, the Founder of the Fottball Institute, Budi Setiawan, thinks that the market for candidates for the general chairman of PSSI has narrowed down to the figure of Erick Thohir. Even for him, the presence of another candidate’s name was just to cheer him up.
“Even though there will be other candidates later, it seems they will only be cheerers,” explained Budi.
It should be noted that the results of a survey of indicators that the majority of Indonesian people want an experienced leader in the world of football to become the next PSSI leader. In the survey, 24.1% of the public supported Erick Thohir as PSSI chairman for the 2023-2027 period. In fact, this figure managed to beat the figure owned by La Nyalla Mataliti, which only received support of 2.1%.
