There are a number of parties who claim that December 1 is Papua’s independence day. It was viral in online media so that a number of parties were influenced and trusted the statement. But keep in mind that Papuans are large in number and do not all support Papuan independence as claimed by these people.

The traditional leader of Jayapura, Papua, Ondoafi Abisai Rollo said December 1 should be enjoyed as the entry of the holy month for Christians, and not for other agendas such as the day of the celebration of Free Papua. According to him, December is a holy month for Christians. Because facing the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, Christmas and New Year. So there is no such thing as Free Papua Day. According to him, Papua is an inseparable part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, so that the question of Papua no longer needs to be debated.

In a further statement, he stated that we are part of Indonesia, Papua, and nothing else. The Papuan flag is the same as the Indonesian flag, the red and white flag, nothing else. The flag was hoisted from the territorial waters to the mountains. In fact, he even had a joke when he wanted two flags, it should be juxtaposed with the flag of a football club owned by Papua, namely Persipura. From this statement, it is expected that by 1 December all community members will rejoice, especially the people of Papua. Previously, rumors spread that there would be political activities related to Free Papua on 1 December 2019. Various parties were asked not to fret, and focus on maintaining Papua as a land of peace.
