The G20 presidency held by Indonesia is welcomed because this position brings many benefits. By being trusted to be the organizer of the G20, Indonesia can sell the investment and tourism sectors. In addition, the G20 Summit can also accelerate digital transformation.

Pinkan Audrine Kosijungan, a researcher from the Center for Indonesian Policy Studies, stated that the Indonesian presidency is expected to accelerate digital transformation. Moreover, there are 7 things that will be presented in the finance track meeting of the G20 Summit, including digital taxation, expansion of financial inclusion through the digital economy, secure cross-border payments and transactions, and digital currency.

Pinkan continued, with the momentum of the G20 Summit, the issue of the Personal Data Bill (RUU PDP) could be raised again, so that its status could be upgraded to become a law. The PDP Bill is very important because it doesn’t allow someone’s data to be misused. As a country that has benefited from digitalization during the pandemic, innovation in the digital economy needs to be supported by adequate regulations.

In a sense, the PDP Bill is indeed very important to be submitted as a law, because the Indonesian people need protection so that their personal data is not misused. So you won’t be a victim of irresponsible people. For example, when some time ago there was a leak of NIK data, the perpetrators could be prosecuted by this law, because the NIK is very important and should not be stated openly.

The NIK of an Indonesian citizen must be protected because if it leaks it can have a long tail. For example, when the NIK is misused, it can be used by other people to get the corona vaccine. Even though the person turned out to be a foreigner who was not entitled to it. Meanwhile, the NIK owner failed to get the vaccine because his NIK was recorded in the care to protect application on behalf of another person.

In addition to the NIK leak, the most worrying thing is the leak of ID cards. If this leaks, it can be misused by individuals to get a loan to an online loan application. NIK owners who are confused because they have to pay for it.

Therefore, it is hoped that the G20 Summit will also discuss the PDP Bill so that the international community also understands the importance of this regulation. If a country has a wallet and digital currency, it should be protected by law so that its people will not be harmed by unscrupulous hackers.

Digital taxation also needs to be protected by the PDP Law because hackers don’t allow the data to be tampered with so that there are people who evade taxes or even run away from tax obligations. We are still in the transformation phase from manual data to digital data so we have to minimize errors like that.

The G20 Summit also accelerates digital transformation in other fields because later in Bali and its surroundings, as the location of the forum, 5G signals will be tested. This signal is very important because it will provide super-fast internet access, which is much better than 4G or 3G.

The trials have been carried out in Bali and are fully supported by state-owned companies in the telecommunications sector. 5G access is very important because there may be meetings held with a hybrid system, aka half offline, half online. It could be that there are representatives of G20 member countries who can only come virtually because there is an increase in corona cases in their countries, so a strong 5G signal is needed.

The G20 Summit can accelerate transformation in the digital era, starting from the internet network, digital currency, online taxation, to regulations that protect it. The PDP Law must be ratified so that there is protection for the transformation of the digital era in Indonesia.
