The current situation in Papua and West Papua is relatively safe and conducive. This situation needs to be maintained keeping in mind that the Free Papua Organization (OPM) continues to provoke people to create riots. In fact, Papuans and West Papuans firmly reject OPM and its separatist ideology because these groups often afflict the community.
Previously, the Siber Polri Patrol Team was able to detect an OPM provocative invitation, especially related to the anniversary of the OPM Anniversary on December 1, 2019. However, the provocation invitation did not have a significant impact. The police also continue to appeal to the public not to be provoked.
In fact, Papuans and Papuan community leaders are not affected by the provocation on social media. This proves that the Papuan people and their community leaders still want peace on Cenderawasih Earth.
Papuans consider OPM provocation as a last wind. One Papuan youth named TW Deora said, the cold attitude of the community towards 1 December 2019 was a manifestation that the OPM was increasingly rejected by the people of Papua and West Papua.
A few days before December 1, 2019, Indonesian fugitive Veronica Koman’s Twitter account was actively politicizing the situation in Papua. On social media, the separatist Medsos account also reported the incident of the Morning Star flag at the Australian City Hall.
There are indeed a handful of people who support the Papuan referendum, as happened in front of the Peace Gong, Ambon City, Maluku, which was carried out by dozens of people demanding the granting of the right of self-determination for the people of West Papua and Freeing Papuan political prisoners.
From their various demands, this group clearly represents the political wing of OPM as seen from the sound of demands that are actually unrealistic for anyone to respond to, let alone by the Government.
One young Papuan leader, Erwin Abisay said, the participants of the action were better off stopping the action and there was no need to demand independence. He said he would like to invite all Papuan students studying to complete their studies well because Papua is not yet fully independent in the field of education.
The invitation is certainly a manifestation of the love of Papuan leaders for their homeland, the Papuan generation who understand the history of Papua certainly will not demand Papuan independence.
Meanwhile, related to the anniversary of the OPM Anniversary namely the arrest of 4 Mass members of the Abepura Shepherd Catholic Church, it was found they were carrying the Morning Star flag.
Statistically, those who want an independent Papua are not large numbers of people, but only a handful of people who are ‘smart’ to provoke a sense of unity in Papua.
If the OPM group is only supported by a handful of people, this is inversely proportional to the people of Papua, especially the younger generation who no longer trust ULMWP, OPM, AMP, KNPB to Benny Wenda.
They carried out peaceful actions to strengthen the integration of Papua in the Republic of Indonesia through various events such as futsal competitions, worship in various regions such as Manado and a peaceful action titled “There is no room for division, Papua is Indonesia”.
This phenomenon certainly shows that the Indonesian people are increasingly convinced that they still have relatives in Papua as a strong nation. This development shows that there are many Indonesians who disagree with the Referendum is Solution for Papua’s Case idea, which was launched by Benny Wenda.
The people of Papua have shown their commitment to keep Papua in a land of peace and this has been agreed by not making noise or sharing untrue news. Moreover, December is a month for the preparation of Christmas celebrations for Christians. So don’t let Christmas peace be influenced by cheap issues.
According to him, instead of making actions or speeches that could provoke riots, people would rather pray in their homes, not by gathering in the streets or in a place that has been banned by the government. Especially in the last 3 months the situation in Papua is in a state of recovery after anarchist action in a number of areas.
On a different occasion, Rev. Albert Yoku as a religious leader also appealed to the public to avoid everything that could cause riots and chaos on Cenderawasih Earth.
So that peace in Papua must not be damaged by incorrect information. care and wisdom are certainly needed when receiving provocative news. So that the sanctity of December is maintained without provocation, noise or cheap issues that can disrupt security stability in Papua and West Papua.
