The community supports the Security Apparatus (Apkam) so that they continue to optimally deal with radicalism. By optimizing the role of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) and the TNI/Polri, it is hoped that radicalism can be prevented from spreading so that it does not become wider.

MPR chairman Bambang Soesatyo said the threat of radicalism had entered the students’ circles. According to him, this should be an alarm for the government in countering terrorism. Meanwhile, Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General Dudung Abdurachman said his party had ordered all ranks of the Indonesian Army to anticipate and be sensitive to the development of radical group movements.

Dudung emphasized that all soldiers of the Indonesian Army must be sensitive and care about the development of radical groups. He also reminded that the TNI AD has a very strategic position. So he asked his staff to provide guidance to the community as a step to anticipate the development of radicalism.

Military observer from the Center of Intermestic and Diplomatic Engagement (CIDE), Anton Aliabbas said that Army Chief of Staff General Dudung Abdurachman’s desire to involve his apparatus in dealing with the problem of radicalism was nothing new. He said that on November 22, 2021, Dudung also clearly stated the plan to involve Babinsa to detect the threat of radicalism.

The entry of radicalism among students is influenced, among others, by teachers or lecturers who are affiliated or sympathetic to organizations that wish to replace Pancasila with a transnational ideology. Later this will direct the children to support the understanding of the caliphate.

Children are indeed objects that are very easily exposed to radical ideas, because children are very easy to absorb doctrine. In addition, children tend to be more loyal than adults so it is easy to become radical.

Apart from the influence of teachers, radicalism targeting children also occurs due to the rapid flow of information circulating on social media and the internet. Moreover, nowadays many people seek religious knowledge through their gadgets. As a result, many are misguided because they do not know the origins, arguments and sources of the information.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian National Police (Polri) has ensured that President Jokowi’s instructions not to invite preachers will be followed by all police officers. The instruction was conveyed by Jokowi when giving a speech at the TNI-Polri Rapim.

The Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, explained that if this was found later, the Police would impose strict sanctions on police personnel. According to him, it is also a good thing to prevent radicalism. Dedi said, if it is proven that there is a violation, Propam will take firm action against the member. Because this is for the common good and to mitigate the spread of radicalism.

Previously, President Jokowi asked the extended family of the TNI and Polri not to arbitrarily invite lecturers on the basis of democracy. TNI and Polri and their families must maintain national discipline.

We used to hear the name NII (Indonesian Islamic State), where the group often did ‘brainwashing’ in recruiting them. This made the residents restless, especially since the target recruited at that time were students from various campuses.

We need to know that brainwashing is clearly against the norms and teachings of Islam. Therefore, the role of religious leaders and the government is to optimize counter issues by providing lessons on faith and deepening anti-radical Islamic teachings.

The radicalism movement in Indonesia is a latent danger that can threaten security stability. The main thing is the religious-based radicalism movement.

Various propaganda about radicalism can still be seen in several places, such as universities, mosques, community organizations and even within the scope of government offices, radicalism has been able to enter its territory.

Even though radical organizations have been disbanded, they can still get followers of radical ideas by using social media to spread their heretical beliefs. This is where they begin to poison anyone who is curious about ideas that can mislead the mind, such as considering Pancasila as a tagut.

The security forces have an important role in dealing with the problem of radicalism, the TNI – Polri have a vital role in creating conduciveness and peace without any provocation that leads to acts of violence in the name of religion.
