Jakarta — The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Mahfud MD emphasized that if there is a postponement of the 2024 Election, then this would violate the constitution.

How could it not be, the article is clearly written in the constitution that elections are held every five years.

“If the election is withdrawn, it violates the constitution. Why? Because the constitution says that elections are 5 years. Not even a day goes by The president serves exactly five years. Not even a day has passed,” he said.

Although in fact the nature of the constitution itself can be changed, according to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, this is not an easy thing at all.

This is because at least there must be an agreement beforehand to make the change from one-third of the votes of members of the DPR, MPR and DPD.

After an agreement was reached, a working body was formed from the composition of members of the DPR, MPR and DPD.

Mahfud MD then saw how the political configuration in the current parliament, which according to him would not make changes to the constitution.

This is because the major political parties have agreed to reject an extension of the President’s term of office.

So the Coordinating Minister Mahfud firmly explained that there would be no MPR session at all.

“Because the PDI-P refused to extend. Democrats refuse. Nasdem refused. PKS refused. It’s almost half. There will be no MPR session,” he said.

Furthermore, according to him, if there is indeed a postponement of the 2024 elections, the country’s situation will become a mess because when the term of office of a president ends,
a replacement has not yet been appointed.

“In that case, this country is in chaos. The new expired term of office has not been appointed because the constitution cannot be appointed,” added Mahfud MD.

Not only dismissing the issue of postponing the 2024 Election, but the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs also asked the public to continue to oversee the course of this democratic party.

“So one of our short-term tasks in matters of nationality is to ensure that the 2024 elections go according to schedule,” continued Mahfud.

He also clarified that it was not true that there was an assumption that if the presidential position had expired, then the Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense Minister could be replaced temporarily until the election of a new president took place.

The man who was born in 1957 admitted that the Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defense could not become interim presidents at all because their terms of office would also expire together with the period of the previous president’s term of office.

“That’s why the Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Defense finished their term of office together with the president who appointed (them),” said Mahfud MD.
