The Archipelago Student Dormitory (AMN) is a forum for uniting students from various ethnicities, languages, cultures and religions who come from various regions in Indonesia and from various universities.
The Archipelago Student Dormitory (AMN) was built on the basis of Presidential Regulation ( Perpres ) Number 106 of 2021 concerning Archipelago Student Dormitories through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR).
The construction of the Nusantara Student Dormitory located in Surabaya which started in September 2021 was completed in May 2022 and was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on Tuesday (29/11/2022).
Furthermore, the PUPR Ministry will build AMN in six other areas, namely Makassar City, South Sulawesi Province, Minahasa City, North Sulawesi Province, South Jakarta City, DKI Jakarta Province, Malang City, East Java Province, and Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Province.
The construction of the Nusantara Student Dormitory (AMN) was first initiated by Papuan leaders in a meeting with President Joko Widodo on (10/9/2019) at the State Palace. Furthermore, the Government issued Presidential Regulation Number 106 of 2021 concerning AMN.
President Joko Widodo said AMN in Surabaya consisted of 410 students and 40% of that number were students from Papua. All of these students showed a high attitude of optimism.
” The development of AMN is one of the inputs from 61 Papuan leaders who have come to the State Palace to accommodate the needs of students from Papua. However, the development of AMN is also aimed at students from other regions so that it functions as a forum to unite students from various ethnicities, languages, cultures , and religions that come from various regions in Indonesia and from various universities . For this reason, the diversity of students must be a force to advance the Indonesian nation,” said President Jokowi.
The AMN Surabaya building consists of two towers as high as five floors by adopting a tropical architectural concept that implements the Green Building Principles. Block one is occupied by female students and block two is occupied by male students.
The AMN that has been built in Surabaya has several supporting facilities such as communal rooms, entrepreneurship rooms and workshops , language laboratories, libraries, health clinics, counseling rooms, and sports fields.
Aside from being a residence for outstanding students who receive scholarships, AMN Surabaya also functions for coaching activities whose implementation is entrusted to the State Intelligence Agency (BIN). The inauguration of AMN Surabaya marked the emergence of a new era of diversity within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia based on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.
