The State Civil Apparatus (ASN) is the spearhead of the Government which must be free from radicalism. State servants were also asked to be aware of the spread of anti-Pancasila ideology because it could hinder public services and injure the nation’s ideology.

Tjahjo Kumolo as Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (MenPan-RB) asked ASN to stay away from all things related to radicalism and terrorism.

Tjahjo Kumolo said that in principle ASN is not allowed to have anything to do with radicalism, let alone terrorism. Especially for candidates for high leadership officials (PPT) middle. Even if you meet the criteria, if you have indications of being exposed to radicalism and terrorism, of course, don’t expect to qualify as an ASN.

He explained that one of the indications of being exposed to radicalism and terrorism could be known through digital traces. The digital footprint does not only apply to ASN, but also to the spouse of the ASN, both husband and wife. ASN must be very careful when surfing the Internet, either through social media or through messaging applications.

Tjahjo also advised ASN not to leave comments that slander the Government or anti-government, as well as follow and communicate with radicalism and terrorism groups. So that ASN must be upright to Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, Bhineka Tunggal Ika and the Government.

Previously, President Joko Widodo had also given directions to create a government bureaucracy that was free from radicalism. To achieve this, the Ministry of PAN-RB and BKN also issued a Joint Circular (SE) regarding the prohibition for ASN to be affiliated with and/or support Prohibited Organizations and/or community organizations whose legal entity status is revoked.

Boy also ensured that his party will continue to fight the movements of the terrorists. BNPT will continue to carry out counter-radicalism and continue to fight information that is contrary to the basic values of the Pancasila philosophy.

Boy said that in the period from January to June 2020, as many as 84 people from terrorist networks had been named suspects. The majority of those named as suspects apparently had planned a number of acts of terrorism but were thwarted by the security forces.

Previously, the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia appealed for the people to unite to eradicate radical ideas so that later they would not become a big power in Indonesia. One way is to make the concept of moderate Islam the mainstream.

The ideology of Pancasila rejects all understandings of radicalism and terrorism. These two ideologies have proven to be dangerous for Indonesia and many other countries. This is because radicalism is an ideology that legitimizes cruelty and violence.

Even though Indonesia itself is known as a friendly and smiling nation. If radicalism still emerges, of course, Indonesia’s friendly image will disappear in the eyes of the world.

Even though the government has dissolved radical mass organizations such as HTI, their ideological residues still exist today. They also infiltrated various rallies.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD said that to eradicate radicalism he would carry out these efforts across ministries, such as the Ministry of Human Development and Culture, which oversees the fields of ideological and cultural resilience.

What Mahfud emphasized the most was that radical groups did not refer to a particular group. He also called for the idea that radical people are a religious group must be changed.

Mahfud emphasized that radicalism is an understanding that wants to change the basis and ideology of the state by going against the rules, then destroying the way of thinking of the new generation. Whether they are Muslim or non-Muslim, if they do that, they should be called radicals.

Head of the State Civil Service Agency (BKN) Bima Haria Wibisana said this was done to prevent ASN from being exposed to radicalism. His party already has the desire to include questions related to anti-radicalism like that. Although the portion of questions about radicalism is only small and will be included in the SKD in the section on the National Insight Test (TWK).

The latent danger of radicalism, if left unchecked, will easily damage the unity and integrity of the Indonesian nation, so that radical ideas should disappear from Indonesia as early as possible.
