Traditional Leaders in Labuan Bajo Join Hands to Support the 42nd ASEAN Summit

West Manggarai – Tu’a Gendang (leader of the traditional house) of the Other Indigenous Peoples Hendrikus Jempo said that community and customary leaders in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, NTT, strongly support the implementation of the 42nd ASEAN Summit held in Labuan Bajo.

Hendrikus expressed his appreciation for holding this international standard event in Labuan Bajo, especially since not all regions have been entrusted with being the location for this event which invited the heads of ASEAN countries. According to him, Labuan Bajo has its own charm, so it was chosen as the location for the ASEAN Summit.

“As community leaders, we invite the people of West Manggarai to join hands in supporting the implementation of the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo,” he said.

He also invited the community to participate in supporting various developments carried out by the Government in the region.

On the same occasion, the Lancang Indigenous Community Leader, Mikael Antung, expressed his gratitude to the government for paying attention to West Manggarai and stated the readiness of the West Manggarai people to receive guests who came from various countries.

According to him, the ASEAN Summit event will have an impact on the development of various supporting infrastructure in the West Manggarai region and increase regional income and the people’s economy in the West Manggarai region.

Meanwhile, the Lawyers of the Other Indigenous Peoples, Benedict Janur, asked the public to be wise in receiving information and trying to cross-check through official government information so that there is no misinformation or misinformation (hoaxes).

“There is a lot of information spread in the community and in digital media, which tends to provoke the public regarding the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo,”

His party also asked the security forces to carry out legal proceedings if it was found that there were persons who had made a commotion in the West Manggarai district.

Previously, Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had confirmed the readiness of the facilities for the 42nd ASEAN Summit, in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

President Jokowi said the holding of the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo also aims to promote this super priority tourism destination (DPSP) area.

“The most important thing is that later we also want to promote Labuan Bajo as a super priority destination,” said the President.

On the other hand, the West Manggarai Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) is committed to providing excellent service to heads of state and delegates to the 2023 ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, NTT.

For this reason, the Chairperson of the West Manggarai PHRI BPC provides full support for the holding of the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo.

“I fully support holding the 42nd ASEAN Summit in 2023 in Labuan Bajo. We hope that the implementation of the ASEAN Summit will run smoothly, safely and successfully,” he said through a direct statement. []
