Public satisfaction with President Joko Widodo continues to increase. This is because the success of handling the COVID-19 pandemic and also the success in alleviating the global recession so that the national economy continues to stretch is considered successful by the public.

This Kompas R&D poll in February 2023 shows that the level of public satisfaction with the performance of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) has increased. Based on the survey that was conducted during the period from January 25 to February 4 2023, the public satisfaction rate for the leadership of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo and also the Vice President (Wapres RI), KH Ma’ruf Amin reached up to 69.3 percent.

Please note that this number continues to increase and has increased by 7.2 percent when compared to the same survey in October 2022. At that time, public satisfaction with the Government of Indonesia was at 62.1 percent.

It cannot be denied that there are several indicators that are considered good by the public regarding the performance of the government in the era of President Joko Widodo’s leadership. In particular, public satisfaction is reflected in 4 (four) government performance indicators, namely the first is public satisfaction in politics and security, the second is in the field of social welfare, the third is in the field of law enforcement and the last is public satisfaction in the economic sector.

Regarding public satisfaction in the field of politics and security, it reaches up to 79.2 percent. It is known that only 20.8 percent of the respondents stated that they were dissatisfied. Then for the field of social welfare, public satisfaction is at 77.3 percent and only 22.7 percent of the respondents said they were dissatisfied.

For the third indicator, namely in the field of law enforcement, public satisfaction reached 55.1 percent compared to 44.9 percent who said they were dissatisfied. Furthermore, public satisfaction in the economic sector is at 53.5 percent while for dissatisfaction it is at 46.5 percent.

For information, this survey involved 1,202 respondents taken from 38 provinces in Indonesia. The poll was conducted by means of face-to-face interviews, and the sample was selected randomly using a stratified systematic. Using this method has public trust of up to 95 percent, with a margin of error of approximately only 2.83 percent.

Regarding how public surveys continue to increase regarding the performance of the government of President Joko Widodo and Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin, Cabinet Secretary (Seskab), Pramono Anung said that the results of the Kompas Research and Development survey, which recorded an increase in the level of public satisfaction, were a form of public appreciation.

It cannot be denied that according to him, the public saw how the Indonesian Government was doing in overcoming various problems, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is not only related to the success of the Indonesian government in dealing with the pandemic, but also the government’s success as seen by the public when it is able to face pressure during difficult times such as facing the global recession and it turns out that the national economy can still grow up to 5.32 percent.

Pramono Anung added that in order to continue to maintain this level of public trust, the Government of Indonesia has discussed various steps specifically regarding how fiscal policy will be from 2023 to 2024. In fact, President Jokowi himself has given specific directions to the Minister of Finance (RI Minister of Finance), Sri Mulyani Indrawati regarding the fiscal policy.

Meanwhile, Political Observer from the University of Indonesia (UI), Cecep Hidayat said that policies regarding infrastructure and the COVID-19 pandemic had indeed made the level of satisfaction with President Jokowi still very high in society. According to him, the most influential thing is the PPKM policy which has indeed been abolished.

This, he added, was able to revive the national economy despite fears of a recession in 2023. But in fact the country’s economy continues to show a positive trend. Of course, with the existence of an economy that continues to stretch, people respond positively too.

Then the second policy, according to Cecep Hidayat, is about infrastructure. He stated that President Jokowi has recently been frequently reviewing infrastructure development in various regions in Indonesia.

So it can’t be denied that the general public really judges that Indonesia has indeed been very successful in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, not only that, even the national economy continues to be at a relatively safe level even though it is in the midst of a wave of global recession. So it is not surprising why the public continues to give high trust and satisfaction to President Jokowi’s leadership and achievements.
