Labuan Bajo Ready to Hold the 42nd ASEAN Summit

Labuan Bajo – Secretary of the Directorate General of Public Communication Information (IKP) of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo), Sumiati revealed that all logistics and infrastructure aspects have almost been completed ahead of the 42nd ASEAN Summit (KTT) on 9-11 May 2023.

In fact, the ASEAN Summit meeting venues such as the Meruorah hotel are ready to welcome the delegates.

“Labuan Bajo is ready to receive guests and hold the ASEAN Summit in 2023,” he said.

According to Sumiati, various logistical aspects have started to be prepared since the beginning of 2023. This effort is necessary to ensure smooth support for the ASEAN Summit summit event in Labuan Bajo.

Kominfo, added the Secretary of the Directorate General of IKP Kominfo, has also prepared a media center with a capacity of 340 people in Labuan Bajo. He explained that around 300 more foreign, national and local journalists had registered to cover the event which had invited the ASEAN heads of state.

Previously, the Governor of NTT Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat expressed the readiness of his region to hold the ASEAN Summit this year. According to him, the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo is very well prepared with all the facilities needed for this international meeting

“And with pride, the province of East Nusa Tenggara is ready to host the 2023 ASEAN summit,” Governor Viktor wrote via Instagram post @viktorbungtilulaiskodat.

NTT Governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat added that as part of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Tana Mori is a new leading tourism destination in eastern Indonesia that is capable of driving economic development in the future.

Meanwhile, Political Observer at the University of Nusa Cendana Kupang (Undana Kupang), Yohanes Jimmy Nami, said that the President’s repeated visits to NTT were because Jokowi paid special attention to NTT.

“This year Labuan Bajo is the venue for the ASEAN Summit, which proves President Jokowi has a desire to improve the welfare of the people of NTT through these international-level activities,” he said.

Yohannes continued, looking at the development in NTT during the era of President Jokowi, many national projects were directed at building the economy of the people of NTT.

“Let’s take the example of food estates, dam construction, and Labuan Bajo as super premium tourism,” said Yohannes.

Yohannes also expressed his hope that through this event, Labuan Bajo could be popularized as a super premium destination, thereby providing a stimulus for the regional economy.

“It is hoped that this will not only become a locus of activity and pseudo euphoria, but must have a real impact on improving the welfare of the people of NTT with agreements that were born at the ASEAN Summit, able to affirm the local needs of the people of NTT,” said Yohanes.
