The Free Papua Organization (OPM) is a separatist group that often commits atrocities against civilians. In fact, they also did not hesitate to attack the security forces, both TNI and Polri. Their cruelty is intolerable, they often attack the resting apparatus and just run away.
The Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security Mahfud MD said the government would overcome the vicious separatist movement in Papua. This statement responds to the attack by armed criminal groups of the Free Papua Organization (OPM) against TNI forces, killing two TNI members.
Mahfud said that the aggression against TNI members on December 17, 2019, showed clearly that the separatist movement must be confronted with a security approach.
Even though so far the government has also carried out development in Papua with a security approach.
Previously, 2 TNI soldiers were killed after being exposed to hot lead by members of an armed criminal group (KKB) in Sugapa district, Intan Jaya Regency. Papua.
2 TNI soldiers who were killed were First Lieutenant E Ezzal Zuhri Sidabutar and Serda Rizky. They were killed while carrying out the task of protecting the security of residents in Sugapa who were preparing for the celebration of Christmas Day.
The safeguards were carried out because residents experienced security disturbances in the form of intimidation, physical violence, and looting by KKB members.
Head of Penidpenum Puspen TNI Colonel Sus Taibur Rahman said the perpetrators of the shooting of two TNI soldiers allegedly had shot at three motorcycle taxi drivers on 25 October 2019.
Receiving the report, the TNI Vacuum Task Force and the National Police increased patrol activities in order to increase security patrol activities in places suspected of being the basis of activities for separatist groups.
After the firing contact, the TNI-Polri Vacuum Task Force continued to chase after arresting the group. They allegedly fled into the forest.
The attack carried out by the OPM certainly poses a serious threat to the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia and the progress of the development program in Papua that is being promoted by the government.
Previously, the OPM had also been carrying out atrocities against TNI personnel, the attack was aimed at a squad of TNI personnel from a considerable distance of about 100 meters with a hit and run system.
The attack resulted in two TNI soldiers being killed, both of whom suffered gunshot wounds, in the name of Serda Dedy being hit by a projectile in the back and Prada M. Hoirul Zahman Zahri suffered a gunshot wound to the left calf.
The two TNI officers were then evacuated to Timika and treated at the Timika Hospital to receive further treatment. Based on information obtained from the medical team, the two gunshot victims were in a stable condition and there was nothing about vital organs.
The problem of the circulation of illegal weapons used by irresponsible people has certainly become a separate PR for Indonesian intelligence. This certainly must be investigated from where the origin of the OPM army can get weapons to launch attacks. Smuggling weapons seems very easy. So that separatist groups such as OPM, seem easy to get military standard weapons everywhere.
For their actions, the OPM has proven to be inconsistent with the ideology of Pancasila, they have proven brave enough to attack fellow Papuans simply because it is not in line with OPM’s thoughts regarding liberation or referendum. The atrocities committed by the OPM have also gone too far, so the security forces need to take decisive action if the OPM returns to acting.
The attack carried out by the OPM certainly poses a serious threat to the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia and the progress of the development program in Papua that is being promoted by the government.
Development in Papua shows the government’s concern for the outer regions outside of Java. In addition to building infrastructure, the price of one price from Sabang to Merauke is certainly an inevitable achievement.
The Indonesian government’s policy towards the status of Papua in terms of international law is final. So that all forms of threats or attacks on the TNI are openly against the state.
The maneuver conducted by the OPM should be a sign that their resistance will invite criticism from many parties, including from abroad even though they are known to like begging to the foreign community by upholding human rights.
