Researcher Makara Insight: The ASEAN Summit Has a Positive Impact on Indonesia

Jakarta – Indonesia will become Chair of ASEAN in 2023 and this year’s Summit will be held in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara. The chairmanship was handed over from Cambodia to Indonesia at the 41st ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh in November 2022.

ASEAN chairmanship is considered still important and relevant for the ASEAN community and the world, this is truly optimally utilized by Indonesia to move and encourage its economic growth.

Makara Insight Researcher Satya Aji Pratama, S.Kom said the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo will have many positive impacts for Indonesia, especially for the Indonesian economy.

“The ASEAN Summit which will be held in May in the upcoming Labuan Bajo will have many positive impacts on the Indonesian economy,” he said.

Indonesia raised the theme of the 2023 ASEAN Summit, namely “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth” which discussed three important issues, namely, Recover-Rebuilding, Digital Economy, and Sustainability.

These three issues have been discussed intensively in order to further deepen interconnectivity in the region and jointly promote stable and strong regional growth. Discussions regarding the 2023 ASEAN Summit and Indonesia’s chairmanship have taken place from 1 January to 31 December 2023.

According to him, the entire series of events held in Indonesia during 2023 related to the 2023 ASEAN Summit provided an economic boost for Indonesia directly and was able to provide an increase in Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“From an economic standpoint, the entire series of events for the 2023 ASEAN Summit will provide direct benefits for Indonesia, especially in boosting economic growth,” he said.

“The impact of the ASEAN Summit can also create a more contribution to Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The same goes for domestic consumption which has increased substantially,” he continued.

West Manggarai activist figure Lorensius Logam said the ASEAN Summit was a major event. For this reason, the 2023 ASEAN Summit needs to receive support and participation from various groups of society.

Lorensius Logam invites the public to be able to support and participate in the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, both from the pre-organization to the holding process on 9-11 May 2023.

“Whatever the challenges will be in the future, come on, let’s participate together in maintaining a conducive situation, both from the pre-event to the implementation process later,” he said.
